Scottish Ski Centres Closed by Scottish Government

J2SkiNews posted Jan-2021

Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced that the remaining still-open Scottish ski areas will have to close from tomorrow, Tuesday 5th January, as the country tightens restrictions on movement due to the virus.

Cairngorm and Nevis Range ski areas had already closed, but Glencoe (pictured above at the weekend), Glenshee and The Lecht ski areas were still allowed to operate for people living in their local regions only.

All three were reporting improving snow conditions and more terrain open.

It is unclear how long the current "stay at home" order to Scots will be in place.

Last autumn Scotland was touted as a possible option for Brits to go to skiing if Brexit and/or virus restrictions made it difficult or impossible for them to travel overseas to ski.

It has been reported that closed Scottish ski centres, in common with reports from other closed ski centres in other countries, are seeing large numbers of people arriving to ski or sledge on the slopes, in some cases contravening travel restrictions and laws.
