Hi there,

I'm going to be in London from South Africa in the first week of April for work. I am considering popping over to Chamonix for 3 days from 7-10 April, to snowboard. Being South African, we don't get the chance often to go snowboarding. Over the years I have done a ski season in Tahoe, and 4 trips to alps, so I am not a beginner, but really just a desperate snowboarder!

With that in mind, and given the snow season this year, do you feel it worth the expense for a few days, or will the current conditions just be a a bit disappointing/frustrating?

Any advice is welcomed!

I should imagine you're going to get lots of "it depends" answers, depending on how much it snows between now and then, given that the main attraction of Chamonix is the off piste stuff...

Well piste skiing will be good and easy logistics so real question would be why not?

Get yourself there! I went mid April last year and had a great time. The pistes get a bit heavy mid afternoon but if you're out early you'll enjoy it.

Should be fine at this time. There is enough snow to last another month for sure :)

hi again - I'll be looking for some long, cruisey rides, and the more I've been reading it seems Chamonix can be quite challenging? Would that refer to the off-piste stuff mostly? I'm more likely to stick to on piste. Which of the 3 areas would be most suited (Les Houches/Argentière/chamonix).

lastly, I know this isn't the correct thread, but I've been looking at Austria as a possibility too (a friend has reccomended mayrhofen) - there's too much choice! Just looking for the best possible solution for 3 days of easy access, fun, stress free snowboarding:) My order of priority for choosing an area would be snow/ease of access/price.

any suggestions welcomed!
