A new storm system is bringing some of the biggest snowfalls yet to North American ski areas which have seen, in some cases, almost six weeks of heavy snow.
Mammoth Mountain in California (pictured today above) says it has seen just under 4 feet (117cm) of fresh snow in the last 24 hours and that the 'major dump' there is continuing.
Other resorts in the region are posting big snowfall totals. Further north in California Mt Rose says it has had 50cm, Soda Springs 66cm and Squaw Valley 68cm since this time yesterday.
The snow is not just falling in the West though, resorts in Quebec including Mont Ste Anne, Le Massif and Tremblant report 30-40cm in the last 24 hours too.
North America had one of its warmest and driest Novembers on record, causing resorts to delay opening in some cases, but since the last few days of November it has been snowy across the continent's ski areas with one area now receiving more than 7m of snowfall so far this season, another the first in the world to pass the 4m base depth mark.
The north of the US and Alberta and inland BC are now also very cold with temperatures dropping to below -30C at times.
Still more heavy snow is forecast for the week ahead.
