The first ski area in the world to claim a snow depth of more than 4m this season, and in 2017, is Mt Baker in Washington State, north-western North America.
The ski area that's famous for posting the biggest ever snowfall figures for a single season (95 feet/29 metres in winter 99-2000) says snow depth at its Pan Dome has reached 161 inches – or 409cm after more than 20cm more snow fell in the last 48 hours.
Mt Baker is usually one of the three resorts to post the most snow each winter along with Niseko in Japan and Alyeska in Alaska although some years can be poor, like anywhere else.
After a dry, warm, November there's been heavy snow fort six weeks now across much on North America with the Pacific Northwest faring particularly well for snowfall volume.
In BC, Canada to the north, Whistler Blackcomb reported more than 50cm of fresh snow in the past week and inland Revelstoke says it has had 6.5m of snowfall so far this season.
