Mt Baker (pictured above earlier this week), the US resort that holds the world record for the most snow ever accumulated in a single season, has received 6m/20 feet of snowfall so far this season.
The ski area in Washington state in the northwest of the country passed the 6m snowfall mark yesterday when it received another 12 inches/30cm in the preceding 24 hours taking it to 602cm season-to-date.
Currently Mt Baker has one of the world's deepest snow bases with 3.1m (over 10 feet) of snow on upper runs. It describes current slope conditions as 'powder' and weather conditions as 'snowing.'
In the 1998–99 season season Mt. Baker received 1,140 inches (95 feet / 29 metres) of recorded snowfall, a world record, and most years it is one of the three snowiest resorts on earth, although last season it was beaten by Alyeska in Alaska.
Mt Baker does not always get huge snowfalls however. In winter 2014-015 it was forced to shut down in March 2015 due to a lack of snow at the end of a four year drought on America's West coast.
This winter however it started with five inches/13cm of snow in October then got just over 2.5m in November and now nearly 3.5m so far in December 2016.
