Hi
I have a business trip to munich and I thought of using this oppurtunity to spend two days for a short ski vacation. (mid January)
From what I have read, I saw that Garmisch-Partenkirchen is quite close to munich and it is a very nice site. Is it right?
Any other / better reccomendations? Im an intermediate skier (I normally go for the red + trails)
Any possibility that there won't be good snow, cause i have to order the ticket these days...
Thank you
BR, Ami

Hi Ami,

I live in Munich and I have been looking at this too. Although Garmisch-Partenkirchen is technically in Germany, it isn't the closest or the best skiing option from Munich as far as I understand. The closer, better and more convenient options (by car anyway) are in Tyrol, Austria. There are many resorts here but the most popular one is Skiwelt which is only 75 minutes by car. Skiwelt actually comprises of several smaller resorts or areas so there is a lot to choose from in the one area. I'm sure the knowledgeable people on j2ski can correct me here a little (if needed) and offer their experience too as some of them go there often or have been there before. Skiwelt, although it looks fairly commercial, it pretty much covers everything you would need for a short skiing trip and considering the proximity to Munich, is probably the best option.

Let me know if you might be up for having a ski buddy for your trip as I will also be looking to ski around that time although my ski level has dropped from intermediate to beginner (I suppose) as I have not skied for about three years. An additional bonus is that I have a car too to get there with. The only issue with this though is at the moment I am waiting for my German licence to be processed (which will take weeks) so until I get it, I can't drive (legally) and as this is Germany, it's best to do everything by the book. For this option, you of course would need to have a driving licence and would need to drive us both there and back :)
