Still Snowing in Australia

J2SkiNews posted Oct-2016

It's still snowing heavily on Australia's ski slopes nearly a month after the 2016 season ended at the country's dozen or so ski areas.

Some area are expected to get another 50cm of snow over the coming week too, but there are no plans for resorts to reopen.

However ski tourers and sledge fans are having a ball.

Only one ski area is still open in the southern hemisphere for the 2016 ski season, Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand, which has also had fresh snow this week. It has extended its season to 'Snowvember' and will be open until at least Sunday 6th November.

Australian areas typically fight a battle to open from early June then build up bases around 1 to 1.5m through the main July-August season, closing in mid-September.
