Used the new lift for the first time today. Peak morning rush, small fast moving queue, we were up the mountain within minutes.
Superb.

Sounds great.
What are conditions like there now Andy? I'm there in 11 days.

I understand they had some much needed snow a couple of weeks ago, but the bloke who changed my tyres was out there early Feb and said it was a disaster: hot weather, very little snow on the ground, pistes breaking up, slushy after midday. Didn't sound like he enjoyed it much at all. However, the morning they left, it belted down so they've been making good snow since. Its got warm across western Austria this past few days again but I am told theres a temp drop this week and some decent snow in the forecast.
I just had a look at the cameras and whilst theres nothing in town, the run off the Ahorn looks like it may be struggling as usual, it does look decent up top. Have a look:

He did also say the new lift is fantastic, massive improvement and no queue at all. Having said that, it was dead in the village as lots of people simply haven't come this season so far because conditions have been so poor. A friend of a friend just came back from Bad Gastein and said pretty much the same, i.e. conditions were poor until there was a dump midweek which freshened it up, but it seems a lot of Austria and the northern regions are still struggling especially at low altitude.
Pray for that temp drop and new snow which is forecast.
Hopefully it will be good for you.

My little experience of Austria is not great and I wouldn't have picked Mayrhofen but I'm sure we will be ok. There seems to be a big drop in temperature in the next few days so fingers crossed for more snow.
I've only had one disaster of a ski holiday with no snow about ten years ago so now I always go high when picking my resorts.
I think France is the place to be this season.

Ski conditions are ok, but they need some more snow. Very warm yesterday, 16c at top of Penken lift, so very soft. Bit cooler today, with a bit of snow this afternoon. Due a bit more tonight.
