Morning all.

My wife and I have been skiing 10 times now. We always rent our gear because it's just less hassle than trying to buy stuff at home. We're not the best skiers but can manage the odd black and can get to the bottom of the hill without any problems.

Kate has always complained that her heels can move up and down in her ski boots which she says makes her feel unstable. Personally I think it's because she sticks her bum out which stops her leaning forward too much but I daren't say that! She says it's because she has very narrow ankles which in fairness she does.

So in an impulsive gesture I've said we'll get her some new boots this year. I had thought to buy them in resort. We're going to Soll, Austria on 19th Jan and we like the guys in Snow and Fun there so thought to do that. Do you think this would resolve the problem and am I crazy for buying boots in resort? It's the only way she'll be able to try them out so I can't see any alternative.

Any thoughts or advice from the experts would be much appreciated and sorry for rambling on.

You mentioned the Snow and Fun shop - our experience of them was very good. One of our group bought a pair of boots there 2 years ago and the service was fantastic. She had trouble with boots for years and they managed to sort her out with correct boots. Their service includes a full x-ray of your foot to determine the pressure points. The best part was being able to ski for a few days and find out if they actually were the correct boot. She was able to ski a few days in them and come back for minor adjustments to make sure they fitted correctly.
We spoke to others and if you buy boots from them their after sales service is superb.
Hope you have a great time

Heels lifting is very bad in a boot and won't help with being in the back seat as she's likely trying to stomp down in them rather than sloshing about. I know nothing about the shop you mention but new well fitting boots will make a big difference to her enjoyment and confidence.
