We are staying in grindlewald. Do we wear ski boots from our hotel to the ski lifts?

Yes.
Unless it's a long way to walk and/or there are lockers where you can leave your shoes at the lift station.
Don't wear your ski boots in the hotel lift though; they don't tend to like that...
