Hi,

We are looking at a holiday in Ortisei in Val Gardena from the 24th Feb 07 and wondered if anyone has been there or has any opinions on the place?

All I can make out is that the better skiing seems to be much higher up and as we have no transport I also wanted to know how easy it is to access the higher villages?

We are on a very tight budget and the holiday will be staying in the Grandana apartments if anyone know them!?

All help and advice greatly appreciated.

Ian

Hi. You are about to have a real treat. Ortisei is absolutely fantastic. The town is the largest of the Val Gardena towns. Don't know your appartments per se, but looked at them on the website ourselves last month and know that they're situated in the ideal location.

When you want an easier days skiing then it's ideal to get up in a dablecar to Alpe de Suise. If you want the Sella Ronda then you can ski to the start of it, but it's about a 45 min ski just to get to the actual sella ronda. However, the ski bus is easy to get from the main road in Ortisei. First stop is St Christina, and then Val Gardena. You can access the Sella Ronda by either town, but the Val Gardena is the best. Only about 6 miles and very easy.

Eating out is easy in Ortisei from the pricy to the pizzas. However, it's a lovely town and no downmarket stuff. Remember though that there are so many mountain restaruants and hoosetts as we call them, that you'll be spoilt for choice.

I'm jealous.....................

All I can say is, make the most of it. Its a beautiful part of the world, and somewhere I really want to go to, and have been studying the region recently, with a view to going next season.

I, too, am seriously jealous.

Enjoy.
