Title says it all - we have reports of heavy rain in the valleys this morning, in numerous locations, with temperatures forecast to fall rapidly over the next 48 hours for the Northern half of the Alps.
Current forecast is for the Northern Alps to get snow throughout this next week with the Freezing Level staying below 1500 metres until the weekend. The Southern Alps may not be so lucky but it is precipitating heavily in Serre Che this morning.
Eye witness reports from anyone on-the-spot gratefully received... :?:

Yeap, the same in Tignes and Les Arcs, below 1500 heavy rain and above, (means on the slopes) big snow !!!
It's so warm, i can't believe it, we've been to the pub yesterday late night in t-shirt at 1600 m !
We want some cold !!! But it's coming, i think.
Happy snowy year !

Pretty much the same story in Chamonix! Its been raining all day today at the valley floor level and snowing on the slopes!
But the good news is that the temp has been gradually falling all day. Local forecast is saying we'll be subzero by this evening with snow down to the valley floor, and the same continuing for tomorrow as well!!

Dumping down in La Rosiere, had some snow on Sat night, a light dusting just as forecast but yesterday and today masses of snow, it was still a bit warm yesterday so it rained in the village (1.850m) but the frezzing level is falling and today there's lots even below village level. Good news for anyone going skiing this week or next! Just a word of warning, there were bare pistes last week, so all this fresh on an insecure base will mean a heightened avalanche risk in the next week or so.

It's snowing again in La Rosiere this am 8th Jan. More and more pistes are being open and almost all the lifts are fully open. Looks as if the next week or so is going to be really good.
