Alpe D'Huez

Thought I'd start a quick review thread for my favorite resort ADH.

Pros
Varied terrain, outlying villages all offer something different. Big ski area.
Easy skiing close to town.
The perfect resort for mixed groups.
The red-run down into Oz is a must do run (knocks spots off Jerusalem in my opinion).
Position of resort gives tendency for intense snowfall, followed by clear skies. Frequent powder days.
Amazing black runs.
Loads of lift served off piste.

Cons
When bad weather closes the higher lifts there's limited advanced skiing. (Epic when it reopens though)

9.5/10 My favorite resort, will keep going back again and again.

Can't argue with any of that. I've done it twice now and would go back again for sure.
Great conditions each time I've been, albeit both times in January.
Just love the way the ski area spreads out in 4 different directions and each is unique. Several truly epic runs and I will not die a happy man until I get mrs h to do the tunnel with me ;-)

Whats the matter with her Tony? I found the Tunnel quite easy, it was the bit at the far end that got interesting!!!

Agree with all that's been said. Fantastic resort and I have been three times now and wouldn't hesitate to go back again!! I am still to hit the tunnel as every time I have been it's been closed due to adverse weather conditions, I will not rest until I have it ticked off.

I stayed in Oz once, fantastic little village and very picturesque, spent New Year 's Eve in the pub at the bottom of the ski lift. Best NYE I have ever had!
Wishes Essex had a mountain range Im all about the CamRock

I've just watched a YouTube vid of the Tunnel - you have to be kidding me!!!!!!

The entrance to the piste (after the tunnel itself) looks ridiculous. Then crusty moguls.

No Ta!

But the rest of the resort map etc looks good - may consider in future

thanks for reviews

Well its not for the faint hearted, thats for sure!
Mrs H took one look at it from the Pic Blanc cable car and point blank refused. I have to say it was far from easy, and bone shatteringly tiring too, but I was thoroughly impressed with myself for doing it.

Yes, its got a steep and at times almost impossible drop in, and then some huge moguls, but time it when the weather has been good to it, ie a fresh dump, and on a sunny morning, and I think it would be fantastic.

its the drop in that looks horrific TBH - probably ok but one that needs you to be comfortable I'd hazard which you may not get to be if there's a load of peeps around who are pushing you to get a move on

One day maybe....
