I am looking to book our next trip pretty soon and am wondering if Austria is as bad as they say? I normally board in france and have enjoyed all the resorts i have been to as they have been ski in ski out but apparently there is little of that in Austria....... Is it really all buses and crap food?

You sure you do mean Austria?
Wasn't aware it had a tag as 'all crap food and buses'

I've had some great ski holidays there, though admittedly not recently. There were buses, no problem. And the food didn't stand out as crap.
Went to Schladming for New Year afew years ago. It was a blast. Though beware the grannies throwing those firecracker type things at you in the street. Can't remember what they're called. They made a bang when thrown on the ground and are wrapped in a twist of paper.

Don't board though so not qualified to comment on that.

Oh. T bars! They do have them and one of the funniet things I ever saw was a boarder hanging on for dear life as he was dragged by the lift.
Sadly he had to let go and slid the whole way back down. Yelling all the way.

I know it sounds cruel to laugh, but he clearly wasn't hurt and it provided 'on lift' entertainment.

Not sure if that will put you off or not!

Apres ski at least exists in Austria, this is sadly lacking in pretty much all the resorts I've been to in France - unless you get in a hotel with Belgians who like a party.

I heard that it was a budget option.
Money really doesn't come into the equation for us. We would rather spend more and have a better time than slum it with the paupers anyway.

Snowman dont know where you came by your info on Austria but its certainly inaccurate.Their may be more choice of ski in/out in France but you still have it in Austria, try Obergurgl at 1930m,straight on the chairlift from your hotel. As for the food you'll be in for a big surprise because Austrian cuisine is top notch, from hearty traditional carb loaded grub that sets you up for the afternoon's skiing to more refined dishes(almost michelin standard)in the evening, you're spoilt for choice. And its a lot cheaper than France and if you go to the tirol region a lot of the food is Italian influenced.Go on Snowman give it a go :D

By all means go to Austria. It's the only country I have experience of skiing in, and may be open to calls of 'biased', but I have to say that I have never been let down by either the quality of the food, or the accommodation. We tend to look for very basic accommodation and self-catering (the criteria being - as long as it's clean and warm, it's good; we only sleep and breakfast there anyway), but as far as food is concerned we are not so easy going. You will find what suits you in Austria, I'm sure.
Bant a ni!

With that attitude, you're more than welcome to stick to your concrete purpose built resorts, aggressive lift queues, and over priced food and drink in France 8)

Maybe you're getting Austria mixed up with Bulgaria....?

Purpose built - Villages erected where the best snow and slopes are? Where they are most convenient for access? Cant say i object to that, its a huge driving force in my decision making.

Mainly in Austria your ski day will involve a bus and i cant be arsed with all that faff. Of course there are a few resorts that offer ski in ski out but in the main they dont - similarly SC is less abundant.

Food? Ask Wickers, he said it was rubbish once didn't he? I think they do some kind of egg on every meal.

Oh, and for the record 'Austrian Twins' for you and your buddy is really going to disappoint you.
