How does that happen then, I've never heard of this before :?:
In the same way that exposed skin gets frostbite, so the sclera and the cornea can become iced. Not nice and usually avoidable.

Doesn't look great. We're going to Les Gets, round the corner, on Friday 22nd. Looking a bit better there hopefully.

Grande Terche itself might not be that great.
But just drive up to Avoriaz and you'll have better conditions.
The locals are saying that this years is meant to be a lot better than last year because some really odd thing are happening. (Such as mice were bigger than normal last month, wasps were out earlier, very random things like that - but that's the local old french farmers for you...)

I've also heard from a local it's going to be a long, hard winter, very cold, as his onions have got extra coats on this year!
No arguing with that.

Hi There
How cold is it expected to get this year and what is the wind chill factor on the mountains?
I am new to skiing and have only been to Soldeu, Andorra where it was relatively mild .
I want to make sure that I have enough clothing to keep my little turnips from freezing
Regards

Oooh, thats a $64,000 dollar question, along with "Will there be enough snow?" ) The weather can vary greatly, I have skied without a coat in January, and been seen in a balaclava in April.
If your clothing is adequate for skiing, you have thermals, hat, decent gloves and goggles (my choice) you will be fine with a wind chill down to -15c. Beyond that, for me, it's frequent stops for warm ups, as I feel the cold!
Many folks prefer shades when it's cold but sunny, but it's possible to damage the eyes with cold wind, so I favour goggles.
Good quality thermals and layering are important, and don't skimp on good gloves. If it's Morzine you're heading to, then you're never too far away from a decent restaurant stop :D

I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!
