Hi all, just introducing myself! My husband, 7 year old son and 20 month old son are off to Alpe d'Huez on 23 December and I've been bricking myself due to the lack of snow! You can imagine my relief yesterday when it started falling in earnest - let's hope it stays this time. I class myself as a "good intermediate" (on skis of course) and will attack most things - apart from steep blacks - with something akin to confidence. My skis are a bit old fashioned by today's standards, they're Volkl ones with nicks cut in one side of the metal for extra flex. They suit me fine but maybe it's time for an update. Good luck to all those heading off early season and hope the snow holds! :D

Thanks Jo! Not been to Alpe d'Huez before but it looks pretty high so snow should be pretty likely. We had to choose somewhere that had good creche facilities for the little one and was family friendly so it limits our choice somewhat. We love Italy but creches, even the ones run by holiday companies, are few and far between. Our 7 year old loves skiing but not been for a couple of years so I hope he can still do it!
Is France expensive for food? We will be self catering and so are hoping to shop at supermarkets and cook rather than taking our extremely loud toddler out to restaurants (except on the odd occasion).

We didn`t find it expensive at all..it`s actually quite a good value for money resort. Also the restaurants are uber kid friendly, so squawking kids aren`t looked at unfavourably!!! There are a couple of nice short green runs for your 7 year old to get re acquainted on, so think you`ve picked a good spot for all of you!! Am off to Austria tomorrow for a week, but if you have any questions, I`ll answer when I get back!
