My search continues.

Saux.in March, experience anyone?

At the minute it has half the amount of snow than the alps. Is it worse in March?

There are some good deals that are tempting, just worried about snow as always

Isn't Sauze in the Alps?
Lots of snow making so they were skiing in the first week of April last year although the low runs into the town had closed. Would I go in the first week in April again - probably not but by all accounts the bumper snows many experienced in 2012 had missed the Milky Way yet they were still going thanks to the snow making.
I would say March should be fine.

I should think you'll be OK. Been in Sauze d'Oulx a week later than that and even though the temperatures were up to 17* in the afternoon the snow was fine on the whole. No problem at all between the Sportinia bowl and Sestriere/Sansicario but it was patchy in Cesana Torinese, making the link to Claviere/Montgenevre, where the skiing was excellent, a bit of a ball-ache  . We took the bus to Claviere the next time to take advantage of the skiing there. By the time we had skied to Montgenevre it was time to ski back! The Clotes run down from Sportinia was mashed potato at 5 o'clock and there was no snow at all on the run down to Jouvenceaux.

On the Saturday evening before we left it started snowing big-time and didn't stop until Monday morning. What a result for the people who arrived on Sunday. 1m of fresh! :D What's more, the apres is on a par with Austria. We had a great time. I would suggest you put it on your list of possibilities :) . Make sure you stay in Sauze itself if you like a bit of craic at night-time. Sestriere is 'Doomsville', and the nightlife in the outlying resorts is very much based around the hotel bars.

It totally depends on the weather. The last 2 years Sauze suffered: 2011 from a heatwave and 2012 from heatwave and a drought all winter.

This year has been much kinder and cold temperatures recently with a big dump right now are improving things. The lower runs will suffer as they are at a relatively low altitude, but the higher slopes go up to 2800m. The lift system has been improved and the runs through the trees are fabulous.

Read that you really want to be staying in Sportina area mate, on the mountain proper.
Skied: Arinsal, La Plagne, Alpe D'huez, Flaine, Les Arcs, Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Sauze, Courchevel, Val Thorens

I'd stay in the town itself. Can't see the point of staying halfway up the mountain in a place like Sauze when it's all kicking off in town. We stayed at the Gran Bosco: nice and friendly, good food, cheap bar, etc. Only criticism would be location; about 1km from the action. Free bus to Clotes lift every morning. Free bus into town after dinner. Even a free bus back to the hotel but the last one was at midnight (or was it 1am?) -) On a couple of nights, when the craic was especially mighty, we said 'Stuff the free bus', and walked back. No big deal: wouldn't fancy it in ski-boots though :) .

Often seen deals for Hotel Relais des Alpes (4*, central location) for handy money. Hope this helps.
