Hi, we are hoping to take our daughter and grandson skiing in March both are beginners with a little experience. They are hoping to have a couple of private lessons and I would like to know if the ski lift in flaine they call the yoghurt pot can still be used without a ski pass. Thank you.

Yes it can and then you can use the small beginners slope with a magic carpet.
Just packing up to return from Flaine later this morning.
Amazing week of snow and sun

If i remember correctly the two man chair lift in forum, below the yogurt pots, is also free.
They also have a points system in place too, which is great for beginners. You can by a pass and top it up with 'points'. Each lift has a different points value so you can cut costs for total newbies.
When we went my wife used about £40 worth of points on the lifts she could use, much cheaper and less wasteful than buying a full pass.

Again thanks for replies. Snapzzz the points system sounds good for them, I don't think they will want to venture too far, how much is the initial pass to buy would it be topped up on a daily basis. Aplews, we are hoping to go mid March to stay at the Club le Flaine we stayed there a couple of years ago and liked it.

You don't pay for the initial pass, its a thin cardboard version of the normal lift pass.
The usual procedure for beginners in Flaine is:
1) use the green runs & free lifts,
2) use a points card & gain confidence on the Petit Balacha (2 points per run) or the Telesiege des Gerats (also 2 points per run)
3) progress to the Grand Balacha (6 points per run) 4) finally move onto the Telesiege des Verds (10 points), Telecabine de l'Aup de Veran (12 points) or Telepherique des Grandes Platieres (16 points)
Note the points cards are only valid for these lifts
Not sure of the current prices but it is around:
12 points cost 10 Euros, 20 points 15 Euros, 40 points 28 Euros, 60 points 40Euros, 80 points 55 Euros.
If you go over 36 euros in a day then you might as well by a day pass.
Its a great system for beginners, Mrs snapzzz stayed on the points all week and i saved around 130 euros over a full pass that she would never use.
Enjoy, i really liked Flaine.

Firstly get your Grand kids into ski school not just for a couple of private lessons but for a full week
you will see them improve a lot quicker.
Secondly head high 1800 mts and look for resorts with something else for the kids to do as the important factor for beginners is not to push them too hard, if they have had enough of skiing for the day take them off to do something else. Bon ski ..... 8)
