Hi all, Im new to this forum - Im spending this winter in Florence Italy and looking for a place to ski as a day trip. Abetone was recommended because its not that far away. Anyone have any thoughts on how to get there by bus or train? My car doesnt arrive for another 3 months.

Hi Iceskier, welcome to J2Ski.

Abetone is the largest Tuscan ski resort, there are buses and trains from Florence to Pistoia http://www.pistoiamobilita.it/layout_1.asp?tab=11 and there is a bus service from Pistoia to Abetone http://www.blubus.it/indice-linee.html (line 54).

There are also several ski clubs in Florence that run coach trips to Abetone http://www.grupposciclubsfiorentini.it/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 http://www.sciclub23ora.191.it/Neve.htm

Hi Iceskier, welcome to Florence! Welcome to Italy!

Just a thought, if you have time for more than a day trip, take the overnight train from Florence to Bolzano and come and ski the Dolomites!

Thanks Swing for the info on bus/train travel, and for the club info as well - I have reached out to both clubs to inquire about their activites. Much appreciated!!

Tim In - Trust me, its NOT going to take much prodding to get me to the Dolomites!! :D I just need to figure out the logistics of it all. Ive skied alot of the US, and in Davos, but Im new to Italy so Im eager for the opportunity.
