This will be my first time visiting the Dolomite ski area. At this point I have not decided where to stay yet. I have read many contradicting reviews and opinions as to where the most challinging lift servered terrain is. Right now i am leaning towars arabba. DOes anyone have any opinions about which resort has the most challenging terrain? Also, any advice on where to stay. I am looking for close to challening terrain, or perhaps cheap hostel style.

Challenging to me = expert terrain, possibly extreme with small cliffs and wider couliors, nothing that would make ski videos though.

Thanks in advance, pray for snow.

Hi Dolomite first timer,
The advice that you have been given is spot on, arraba has definitely got the pick of the expert slopes. It is quite possible however to stay in the resorts on either side also (Corvara,Canazei) provided that the sellaronda is open. There are also decent reds & blacks at Ciampac (Canazei) & La Villa (Corvara) also the world cup downhill at Selva (Val Gardena). Unfortunately there is not much in the way of chutes & couloirs due to the nature of the mountains, however the stunning beauty & excellent local hospitality more than makes up for this. I would suggest that you look at bed & breakfast or small hotel accommodation on the local websites, they are very good value & normally of good standard, I am afraid I am not aware of any hostels. Enjoy the trip, I hope to get there at least once this winter. Regards Pete
