Currently planning my main trip for February. Looking at heading to Hotel Cesa Padon outside Arabba or Hotel Fanes in Moena.

Finding it a bit difficult to get hard info on location of lifts, ease of access to snow, etc. Would welcome any info that people can offer and any views on which area would be most convenient. I am travelling with the kids, 12 and 10 - they would probably be classed as intermediates but possibly at the lower end of the scale.

Hotel Cesa Padron is about 15 mins from Arabba. Does the hotel have a shuttle bus? If so they will probably drop you right outside either Potovescovo cable car for the Marmolada side or Burz chairlift for Alta Badia etc, both are on the Sella Ronda circuit.

It looks as though Hotel Fane is in the Val di Fassa area which is well linked to the Sella Ronda. Although I have skied in this area I am not sure where the village is. Hope this helps

Moena sounds interesting, if you don't mind the 10 minute drive to the slopes

Nothing to do with accommodation but take care with skiing into Arabba if you class your children as 'early' intermediates i.e. are they happy on reds? The home run from Corvara is red and steepish in places (right hand option is easier, left hand one really is a challenge for a red but one of my favourite runs). We got down it with 3 weeks experience but it can get mogulled and busy at the end of the day which could easily frighten a timid intermediate.

Depending on the exact location of the hotel they may pick you up (and drop you off for that matter) on the Campolongo (spelling?) pass which is a junction of about four lifts about half way to Corvara and would cut out the need for this run to get home.

Can't comment on Moena as not familiar with the area.

Wherever you stay, the skiing in the Dolomites is fantastic and I'm sure you'll have a great time :D

Will you have a car or would you be using the ski-buses?

Have now booked in Moena. Will be using skibus so hope it is well connected into the overall area. The ski area in the immediate vicinity seems small so I would hope to be able to get onto the Sella Ronda or connect to other larger ski areas without too much bus time.

I see you have now booked in Moena so this is fairly irrelevent but, if you are ever planning on going again, do give the Cesa Padon a go, it is probably the best small hotel that I have ever stayed in. the hotel is run by a brother & sister, she runs front of house, he runs the kitchen, I can honestly say that the food was fantastic, staff were very friendly & if this hotel was in a more convenient place you would be paying a lot more than they charge at the moment. Transport to the slopes is arranged with a shuttle bus running every morning & evening. This hotel is not the place to stay if you wish to party every night but, if you just want superb food in lovely surroundings & a quiet glass or 2 of wine in the evenings, then this is the place.
