I have the chance of a really good deal in Les Arcs 1800 this coming January, only thing that worries me is how busy the pistes might be? I'm recovering from an injury and suffering a real crisis of confidence that come with being disabled, having people shoot past me at all o'clocks is sure to freak me out.
I have previously been able to cheerfully carve blues, enjoy reds and pick my way safely down blacks with no style but a big grin however having had spinal surgery this year I barely managed a cautious snowplough at the dome recently due to the volume of people on the slope.
Anyone with who has been in January that can advise me how busy it might be I would be grateful. Thank you in advance for any constructive advice on this. :D
How busy is Les Arcs in January?

Which is why I usually choose January. Usually the best snow conditions too, nice and cold to keep it deep and fluffy.

I've been to Les Arcs in January, like most places it' a lot less busy in January than later in the season once the French holidays start.
You shouldn't have any problems with queues or crowded pistes at all.
Fantastic ski area, which has everything you are looking for.

Lilywhite, I've skied many times in Les Arcs, and it can be wonderful and quiet, and at peak times very busy. Get in touch with snowcrazy and ask him to suggest the best areas for your needs. He knows the system as a local.
Perhaps an hour's private lesson with New Generation Ski School in Les Arcs might give you some more confidence back?

Thank you, that was what I was hoping, having been later season previously I was hoping that it would be quieter.
I am definately planning a couple of refresher lessons,my ankles belong to someone else at the moment so finding my edges is a must do! I was going to get in touch with DSUK for advice re: instructor as with nerve damage and limited feeling in my feet they might be better placed to advise. If they can't help then I will contact snowcrazy.
Cheers Andy and Bandit, Lily x

Hi,
Many thanks for looking/choosing Les Arcs it's a great place to ski....I have been going to the area for the last 10 years as have an apartment in Bourg-St-Maurice...
... in January from around the first weekend after New Year the resort will be crowd free, even with the expansion over the last few years, I'm amazed more people haven't cottoned on to the fact that if they give the mega resorts of Tignes & Val a miss up the road and head to Les Arcs instead a fab skiing holiday is to be found.
Theres acommadation to suit all tastes, and a great mix of runs, many of which will flatter all levels of skiing and bring your level on no end, coupled with an envious snow record and skiing from 1200m - 3226m and also the link with LA Plagne.....unless your going for the whole season you won't ski yourelf out......in fact it would take many seasons.
There I must admit I'm a little biased for obvious reasons but I promise you won't have any worries choosing Les Arcs.
All the best
jon.

Just been looking through my photos of Les Arcs Jan 2009, there's not a single one of a piste which you would even begin to describe as busy. In fact the place looks deserted.

Surely all resorts are quiet in january? I specifically mention this as we were in Val d'Isere and Tignes in early January this year. No queueing at all, lovely uncrowded pistes....and bluebird skiing every day.
slippy slidey snow......me likey!
