J2Ski

Mark203 posted Apr-2012

Off to Bormio on the 7 April taking my niece skiing for the first time.

I was excited by the forecast that promised snow this week, although a little peed off that I had not booked this week.

Now snow-forecast.com is showing rain at 2000 meters, Ski Club of GB who were showing 9CMS of new snow is showing non only J2sk is optimistically showing snow and a freeze point lower then others

So anyone tell me what is going on?

http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Bormio/9day/mid is showing clear spring conditions.

Rain/snow boundary about 2000m. A dusting of snow higher up this week but probably not enough to freshen up the pistes, but enough to stop deterioration.

Resort runs open, but slushy.

Can't be more helpful than that as I don't know the resort.

Yes I love watching the weather fronts come and go on meteox, thank you OLd Andy for the original link, which indicate a lot of cloud over that part of Italy all week until the 9th

Snow-Forcast seems to predict a lot less snow then J2ski, just as J2ski predict a rising freeze line Snow-Forecast prediction is to lower

Ski Club have revised their estimate to 12 cms over 9 days

I think I will believe ski info which predicts snow everyday and lots of it!

I do not thin anyone has been to Bormio!

Yep a few of us have... expect poor conditions down below as Bormio this time of year at 1200 mts
will be quite warm, but you should have good conditions up at 3000 mts and you also have Stelvio
a drive away

I have friends out in Bormio and it is pretty bare down below 2000m but all the best runs are above 2000m, between 2000 and 3000 anyway. It is great to be able to ski from 3000 right back to the town but tbh the gondola ride back down is fine at the end of a hard day!

2 years ago (when I lived there) you were able to make your way down to the bottom but it was just a bit "sugary"

3000m is a great view and again, 2 years ago the snow was still perfect up there-there are a lot of different routes down with ample beginner area around about 2000m

I love how small and intimate Bormio is and although you wont get the miles of skiing done on different runs like you would elsewhere, you really get to know everyone and every run in a week or so.

Start with the gentle blue run just below "la rocca" restaraunt-wide and gentle-great for warming up first thing!

Also take your swim trunks for a dip in the thermal spa srpings called "la pozza"

PM me if you want anymore ideas, i know the area pretty well

Enjoy!
