Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me please. Myself and husband are looking to go boarding in Breckenridge on 9 March for 2 weeks. I haven't booked it as yet as having read some concerning reviews on other websites (I don't normally take much notice of them but as it is our first time to the US and it's costing rather a lot, I am hesitant). Does anyone know what Breckenridge is like in March? - is it really busy because of the spring break? Is it quite reasonable to self cater there?
We normally go boarding in Europe and have been to various countries although we do like Finland and Sweden due to the uncrowded slopes.

I look forward to any responses - thanks :)

Breck is a great resort and normally has good guaranteed snow well. Into April. The runs are fantastic, the people are fantastic and you will have an entirely different experience to that of Europe. I have never been self catering but would say that is not a problem as you can get a free bus to the supermarket. There are plentiful supply of restruants to eat out if you wish and on mountain outlets are cheap compared to europe.

Went to Breckenridge in March 2010. Best ski holiday and my favourite resort ever. Have booked again and going in March this year too. Yes it is more expensive to get there but as far as I am concerned, worth every penny. We are going for two weeks this time and cannot wait (have arrived home from a weeks skiing in Italy today - great holiday but not a patch on Breck). Even if busy, we found that the queues for the lifts are so well organised that they move quickly, unlike some of the ones we have experienced this week in Italy. We walked to the supermarket when we were there as it is not too far from where we stayed at the Marriott self catering. You can also eat out fairly reasonably. Hope this helps.

I have noticed that the lifts in Breckenridge are only 50% open. Is there a problem there at the moment. I am due out there mid Feb? Thanks

There are problems right across the US at the moment - no snow. The US weather systems are mainly determined by the jet stream, and it's been stuck in a bad pattern for some time. It looks to be moving now though. Many places have been much warmer and dryer than normal. There are a few exceptions, but I've heard of ski areas laying off their seasonal staff and running with just their year round employees. Anyway, a lot can happen in a month (I hope).

No snow in many US resorts right now, but its unusual so should be ok in March I would think.
Mate skied Breck a few years back, and consensus is its the best place to ski in the US.
