You are all aware and have seen great travel videos of chest high powder skiers drinking wine near a sun filled slope !
This you will never see in any tourism sites!
As smart skiers use the net wisely!

Never make "arrangements" three months in advance,,,regardless what tour operators tell you !

Do leave a little snow for me in March please.
Should any Californian ski resort bods read this I, and my co-dancers I am sure, are open to offers to face in the "other" direction. Something like WSW should do it, but accuracy comes at a price

While it is always risky to book several months in advance, its usually the way we have to do it from Ireland or UK if we want to head to a particular resort or accommodation or are stuck with certain dates, because of work or schools. This is especially true if travelling with a larger group :x
That's why high snow-sure resorts in Europe do so well and get to charge a hefty premium for the privilege
I booked months ago. 4 weeks ago, there was not a snowflake anywhere on the mountain and I began to get a bit nervous. However, the J2ski snow-dancers have been very busy and there is now buckets of snow all through the alps in plenty of time for my trip tomorrow
Now all I have to do is see if I can put your wonderful poetic advice on skiing powder into action
