My group of 4 couples, ages ranging from 40-55 but extremely active, have been to Andorra for the last 3 years staying twice in El Tarter and once in Soldeu. We love the Grandvilara area but have decided to expand our horizons. We are going to Maria Alm in Austria in March staying at the Niederreiter hotel.

Any comments.....preferably good.....would be appreciated?

We have just bought an apartment about 5K up the road in HIntermoos. It'll be our first time skiing in the area over Christmas....we were in Maria Alm in the summer, it was beautiful. Have you checked that hotel out on Trip Advisor?...it looks beautiful from the outside!

been going to Maria alm every year since 2006, lovely picture post card village espically when covered in snow.. skiing limited in maria alm but take free bus 5mins down road for the vast hochkoing region, if there is a lot of snow you can from maria alm. overall lovely secret gem of a skiing area so don't tell to many people :)

Hochkonig is getting good reviews, reasonable amount of skiing across the area, but not brilliantly linked. I looked at the chalet panorama a couple of years back, looked stunning, but the tour op stopped using it.
Would love to hear a report and see some pics when youve been

Skiing in the Maria Alm/Hochkonig area can be very good. The one downside with the area is that the hotels are in the valley that don't get much sun at this time of the year. However, having driven through the area yesterday the trees full of frost looked stunning. I would find a week at Maria Alm/Hochkonig lacking in variety but as it is part of the Amade area you will have access to plenty of other good areas within about 30 to 40 minutes drive including Zachamsee, Flachau and Schladming all of which have World Championship courses and good lift systems.
