We dropped a family off at some services en route from Innsbruck Airport to Mayrhofen, they were heading to Alpbach, and not knowing much about it, I had a look in WTSS.
It says the slopes are very limited, not for novices, and mainly of red standard, its a very pretty village, and the apres ski is lively. In other words, theres not much skiing and its gets rowdy at night )

What kind of skiers are you? If you want decent extent, you may need to have a car to get about, or use public transport. I'd head west to the next valley though if I were you, as east is the Wildschonau which is similarly limited.

Generally good skiing at Auffach. I was looking down at Inner Alpbach on Wednesday, and the snow is holding up well. There is a general thaw on, but you should just get your week in OK. Start early.
Last time I was in Alpbach, I met with an ex-burgermeister, (mayor), Herr Blettszacher, to discuss a bit of Wildschoenau history ~ a very friendly and knowledgeable fellow.
It was a previous Alpbach burgermeister that determined Tyrol's part in the Marshall Plan, (after the second world war). This lead directly to Niederau building the first mountain lift in Austria.

Hey Pooky. Attended a freshers week in Alpbach at end of March 2010. Transfer was via coach then taxi from Innsbruuk airport, about 90 mins. It was end of season, but plenty of snow and the benefit of glorius sunshine (was 2100m up and skiing in t-shirts!)Alpbach is a small village resort, very picturesque and very friendly, it has enough shops, spar supermarket, hire shops, restaurants, bars etc to please you am sure. Free ski bus from village to main Gondola station in mornings and back to village in afternoon (alternatively the service bus runs all day both ways). On your first day rent a ski locker at Gondola base station for the week (a good place to pick up/drop off your skis/boots/extra clothing etc rather than lump them around on the bus twice a day). Minimal queues on all lifts at this time of year generally (although a rush for late bookings due to late snowfall may prevail)Excellent ski schools and instructors that are English speaking, if you need the facility (we had 4 hours a day, 10-12 and 1-3 for 6 days). 26Km of Red intermediate mediums, 15Km of Blue beginner easys, 5Km Black expert difficults and some off pistes too, the runs kept our ability level interested no problem. Restaurants on the slopes were good for food, beer and hot chocolate! (busy 1-2 though). Enjoy and hope this helps.

Hi
I have now been to Alpbach 4 times! And I'm a baby.... It's full of people who go year after year after year. It doesn't seem to matter that the slopes are extensive. plus there's always the off piste, which is amazing.

Apres ski centres around the Post Alm - great food too, the Jakober, and the Hotel Berghof. There are numerous resaurants though.

The town is separate to the bottom of the slopes, so best to hire a locker at either Inneralpbach or at the bottom of Wiedersberhhorn. We prefer the ski down to Wiedersberghorn though, rather than inneralpach and the slopes are better in the afternoon there too. The bars at the bottom of both are great.
Enjoy.... it's an amazing place.

We found it by accident. Got a last minute (allocation on arrival) and was taken to Alpbach. Now we go there and nowhere else!

I've never understood why anyone would do this with a holiday, no matter where it was to.
