Niederau, Auffach, Oberau in the Wildschonau

Folks,

I thought I'd just add the following observations on the Wildschonau...

The Wildschonau valley is so lovely it's very tempting to limit your skiing to Niederau/Auffach/Oberau. But, if you have a hire car, there's so much more in a short drive.

We were there in Jan for a short break and skied Auffach, Kitzbuhl, Alpbachtal, Hopfgarten (from there into the Ski Welt - Elmau, Scheffau etc) and Niederau over 4.5 days skiing.

I keep going back to the wonderful Kellerwirt in Oberau and with so much skiing within 45 mins it's a great base for a slightly more diverse ski trip.

Thought I'd just offer the thought up :-) Off to Chamonix on Sunday and looking forward to some more skiing. Wherever you are, have fun.

Anyone had any experience of the Hotel Christoffel in Niederau.
We had originally booked into the Hotel Austria for 5th March but was informed yesterday this hotel was overbooked. :( Now we have been shoehorned into the Christoffel. :shock:
I believe it is opposite the Hotel Halfenwirt at the outskirts of the village.
Dave Mac may be the man to answer this. :D

Hi Mick,
The Christoffel is well located adjacent to the Harfenwirt. Cross the road to get on to the lift, or the Grafenweg beginner slope.
Have not stayed there, but I do stay close by. Have eaten there, and it was quite good. People who have stayed there have mentioned good rooms, and gave a good impression. I meet Anton Rainer most winters.
If it is a clue, due to it's location, I would be happy to stay there.

Thanks for the reply Dave. We have since been informed we are going to the Sonnschein, so we will be OK there. Away from the bells.

Please identify yoursel if you spot the "Dave MAC" hat, and we can get a ski in. I am here for a few weeks.
