Hi all,
Just a quick question, I'm planning on buying my dad so new ski poles because i think they're a bit past it.
But sure what size to buy. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. He's about 6foot 1.

Probably 110cm or 120cm. Height is not the only influence. It is really your elbow height from the floor. The shop assistant will show you how to hold the sticks upside down, and check for height.

There is only 1 way to get the right size. He has to stand without ski boots on holding ski poles upside down, hands clasped underneath the basket with the handles of the poles just touching the floor. His arms should be a 90 degree angles when the right length is in his hands.
Does this make sense....you have to do it, not visualise it!

There you go Graeme, there is two slightly different versions. I think Tony's guy ought to be on his skis as well though!
This is a reasonable guide. However, far from being only one way, various ski coaches advise using shorter poles, the idea being that in order to plant the pole just before the tip of the ski, this action will pull the weight forward. In previous times, longer ski poles were de rigour!

Graeme1986, just an idea but could you look at his current poles and see what length they are? Then buy the same...
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain
