Thanks DaveD for that link,
I didn't actually go to the other resort, so I don't know if that's where they went, but it could have been. It looks as though it's only got 4 Km of piste - which is tiny! And I couldn't find a snow report for it at all.

Bansko seems to have a bit of snow at the moment, most of their pistes are open, but Pamporovo doesn't look too good. I am glad I am heading out to Courchevel (in a month's time) and not Bulgaria!

Edit - I've found a piste map for Malyovitsa

hmmm..doesnt look that great but next snow is forecast for 18th.

Mind you, i went to Pamporovo a few years ago and there was virtually no snow until a few days before, and then there was just one big dump that sorted it out. Fingers crossed for you.

The snow report for Borovets is here:
http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/Bulgaria/Borovets_snow_report.html

It says that only 60% of the pistes are open, and the current snow cover is 35 cm on the upper slopes and 10 cm on the lower ones (i.e. there is snow, but not much).
The snow forecast is 6 cm on Monday 18th, 1 cm on Tuesday 19th, and 4 cm on Thursday 21st.

I hope the forecast is wrong and you get a pile of snow just before you arrive :D

Sorry for the lack of updates, we've been in Sofia for the past few days ... to be honest though not much is changing day-to-day here, we're all just waiting for the big dump that will open all the lifts.

4 Man chairlift on the Rila slopes is operating today. It is still snowing lightly in the resort & at the top with temperatures remaining cold (-4 at resort level).

Only Martinovi 2 (red) is accessible & open from the lift but still better than nothing.

Yastrebetz cannons are still working & Yastrebetz 2 & 3 are in great condition due to the cold temperatures & constant operation of the cannons.

Gondola is open for walkers & to ski down to Yastrebetz but it is still very rocky so not really recommended for any but the experienced.

Free shuttle bus from the Gondola to Yastrebetz is still operating too.

Sitnyakovo Express open again for walkers only.

Shame, the snow in France last week was exceptional.

Updated: 19th January

It has been snowing heavily since about 10am this morning. Temperatures in the resort have stayed cold (currently-6 degrees). Bulgarian TV is reporting heavy dumps of snow in Eastern Bulgaria with as much as 40cm of snow on the coast. They also suggest it is heading this way so more snow is forecast.
