It just seemed very backwards, outdated and stuffy, ESP the guy that harped on about it being a business decision!

Pablo, how are you keeping? Been up north much yet?

Just watched the repeat from Sunday and can not believe the piece they did on alta, Utah.

(btw if this has been discussed, sorry!)

I presume that the producers of the show heavily made the piece biased because that was the angle they were going for but after taking stock of it I am still appalled.

How can a resort in today's day and age (and recession) survive by turning away such a large market?! For anyone who didn't see it or doesn't know, they have a ban on snowboarders.

It also said there were two other resorts, anyone know where they are?

I have the usual banter with my mates who board (g**s on trays and w***s on planks etc) but don't actually believe any of the things that the people out in America were saying.

Am I on my own here in thinking its insane?

i may be wrong here but i think the equipment is def changed the way you can learn to ski powder-you do have to lift yourself out of the snow anymore

I have thankfully never been in deep snow in the old style skis but newer rockered ones certainly rise much easier and do let you float better-i have armada ants and they are also effortless-would love a go on a pair of jjs!

don't know the exact model but they look pretty thin and def way to thin for the choppy deep deep snow you seem to be stuck in!

Looks wonderful fun-at least you wouldn't of hurt yourself falling over!

I earned just over 100quid a week teaching maths in Italy but my hours were 3-6, 5days a week which literally lead to maximum ski time!
You quickly realise you don't need a massive amount of money if you live in the mountains-although my ski pass and accommodation was included.
Would love to do it again but sadly that time has passed-unless Morrisons open a store in tirano for my oh to work in!

That was what we worked on in Italy when i was doing slalom training-only did it for a week myself by i was around racers a lot as i taught the kids maths.
One of the big problems they have is too much weight on the inside ski though which causes them the slide out.

We were told by the local Italians though that allowing the inside ski to dominate the turn-ie stick out too much, leading the turn was a major no no!

You need to wait do trencher to wake up on the other side of the world for a better answer

If you have enough speed and a newer design of ski-most off piste or all mountain skis have a fatter shovel to get through the snow, you will find it naturally will rise

i def agree with bandit that you need more speed than you think is safe
