I've noticed now on a few separate threads that quite a few people on here seem to either live in the alps or near to them allowing them to ski all season.

This would be an ultimate dream for me. Cycling in the mountains all summer and skiing all winter....... I'm sure my OH would disagree but for me it sounds like heaven.

My question is, what jobs do you all do, to be able to enjoy such an amazing life style? Even those lucky enough to do season after season. How do you fund it?

My other half was sceptical when I told him I had resigned and wanted to live in the Alps. He agreed to do a couple of seasons and now he wants to stay for good...Like me.

I was a teacher in the UK and I am a childcare manager in Morzine now.

There are lots and lots of different jobs to be had for the winter season and very few of them are highly paid. I earn a tiny fraction of what I was earning in the UK but being here is not about making money. I can, if necessary fall back on the teaching, during the summer if necessary as commuting to Geneva is possible and there are a few international schools there.

I have found things a little stressful lately but that is mainly because I still have a house in the UK that needs to be tended to along with lodgers and pets.

When the move is permanent I'll have the pets with me and only the chalet I'm living in to worry about! I can't wait.

We'd love to able to do this ourselves....I'd do any job if it pays enough to get us by!!

There are plenty of jobs about if you look at the right time. Once your there you get to know people and then better opportunities arise.

My brother did it first. Then one day when talking to him about the mountains I said pretty much what you have just said. I took his reply as a challenge! He said 'In this life there are people who talk about it and people who do it'. He then smiled smugly at me.

I'm a doer now!

I totally agree to some extent. However it's a little different depending on the persons situation. Single, married, family etc..... If single then it's easy to make the change. However if you fall into one of the other categories it's somewhat more challenging isn't it?

More challenging - Yes, but still very possible.

I've met a few seasonaires with children and plenty of families who have moved from the UK permanently.

I like to think of life as an adventure.

Yes, married, both with good jobs, so it's a lot to give up for that change in lifestyle. But, I think if you put things off until the "right time" you'll never do them, so maybe, who knows....!
