Thanks, is the foragonal movement the one you do when you're pole planting, or do you do it some other time?

Ally,
Im sorry to choose that word-it was just one of the ones that stood out from the week!
It describes the start of the turn when you start to put pressure on the inside ski and move to pointing more down the hill (in the fall line). It is to try and promote you staying with the idea of being perpendicular and not having too much weight back.
The perpendicular thing made sense to me too-you walk at 90degrees to a pavement but when you ski a lot of us arent 90degrees to the hill

Ally,
My posture problems probably came from a young age-I learnt to ski with my father who was an instructor himself-after me blaming him for not teaching me right he defended himself saying that at age 8 he didnt think I needed to know about "perpendicularity" to slope and "foragonal" movements-which to be fair I do remember telling him to be quiet and let me ski!
There were 2 racers on the course who actually struggled the most to get the real basics down!
Snowpack-the first aid course is a whole weekend and about £100, as I said before I have found it hard to do any shadowing as Xscape dont allow you to shadow unless you are a member of staff so be careful if you want to progress through the system-that was my initial goal too!

hi
i did my BASI 1 last summer in Glasgow at Xscape.
I found it to be very tough for the first three days-my personal skiing came under some scrutiny (mainly posture-and I would have regarded myself a very able skier beforehand)
The hardest part was doing the basics correctly in the way they need you to. You need to look like the EXACT model in the text booka nd be able to portray this to the client-bloody tough but after 2 days of snow plaugh turns you get plough parallel and parallel pretty quickly. Also hard skidding turns rather than carving!
I benifitted loads from the course and would recommend it even if you dont want to teach. However, I have found it very tough to get the required shadowing hours to get my full liscense
Was a great experience and really good fun!
Absolute beginner - advice please

Hey
i would echo the comments above and def stick to europe-no need to spend £2-3k on a holiday to canada or the states when europe is as good in most resorts!
Try looking at Val Disere too
