thanks for all the advice, i wasnt suggesting that la plagne was a hidden gem-just that the offpiste was under-rated but i may be wrong!
There is no way a full area pass is needed for 3 of our group but i think we will all go for the discovery and maybe on the last day all try and get across! Cheers |
Avoriaz was designed for boarders i think-im a skier myself but im pretty sure Avoriaz was one of the first resorts back in the 80s to recognize borders and really build specific areas for them so he will be rgand!
as far as prices go i cant remember that well-we stayed in the hotel "le viking" which was up the hill above the village but i do remember some nice cafes and patisseries around the base gondola for lunch etc-not too pricey get to chatel for a spot of lunch one day-its very nice! |
Its just myself (skier) and one of the boarders who are of a decent standard (basi qualified)-think were going to hire a guide and goo offpiste which I have heard La Plagne is excellent for-bit of a hidden gem?!

Hi
Im off to La Plagne 1800 with a small group of friends 12th April, staying in the Chanterelle chalet-anyone been? I know it is not going to be a pretty village but the snow looks good so thats all that matters! We have 2 snowboarders, and 3 skiers from beginer (in lessons) to an intermediate and one experienced. Basically I want to know what lift pass to get. Is there enough difficult skiing in the La Plagne valley to just get the discovery one? Also how difficult are the runs/how long does it take to get across to Les Arcs? Cheers |
Morzine is a fantastic area if the snow is good-Ive been to Chatel in the past and last april got a late deal to Morzine which was a cracking week.
The best thing to is get the Portes Du Solei pass, get up dead early and get around the circuit! If you can, try the swiss wall on the way over to switzerland, its a great run! If youre thing is more like snow parks and jumps then avoriaz is great with the stash park being a long terrain park made of natural features-really novel. Loads of good cruising runs and lots of off piste/tree runs. If youre staying in morzine you should get over to Les Gets and Mont Chery area as it is always deserted and stunning! Youll have a great week, ive been to most of the big resorts in europe and if there is snow, Portes Du Solei is my favourite! |
