Thanks for info. We relocating from oz to Geneva middle of this year and can't wait to hit the slopes. Any indication how how lift passes work (eg do they do season pass) and cost?

Selva sounds like a decent option for you guys.

Also consider Alpi di Suis\Seiser Alm. Tons of confidence building runs up there.

I recommend considering Ortisie (just down the road from Selva).

Luxury hotel Italy or Austria

We stayed in Ortisei (Val Gardena, Dolomites) last Christmas at Hotel Grones. Price not for the faint hearted but worth every penny. Had a complete blast.
Also heard good things about the Adler (also in Ortisei). Actually that part of the world is full of top notch places that offer better bang for your buck than France and Austria.
PS - We had perfect skiing conditions and the area is great for beginners and intermediates. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

WRT to Oz; I say don't bother. The skiing is rubbish, the lift system a joke and the prices are ludicrous.
I have heard that NZ may be better but no first hand experience there.

Whilst I haven't been to Cortina I have skied around other places in the Dolomites and I too wonder why so few Brits get down there. Great skiing. great food, great weather, sparse crowds, incredible scenery and from what I can gather much better value than France. The Germans definitely know about it......

Just got back from another week in the Dolomites (Hochpustertal\Alta Pusteria - BTW cracking good skiing and cheap too) and was pleasantly surprised by the etiquette shown in the queues and on the pistes. Even though it was school hols and very busy the Krauts and Eyeties (not many English speakers around) did not show much queue pushiness at all. The odd exception were bunches of kids in lessons but that is fair enough IMHO as the instructor needs to keep them all together. Anyway, that only happened on the crappy small chairlifts so didn't really affect us.
Skiing v Snowboarding Injuries

Snowboarders injure more skiers than skiers injure snowboarders
