And you have regular experience of that?
It is an expert job to manage competently and involves a Tyrolean machine.
DaveMac - your experience?

Similar to what we've been looking at - flying LHR to Zurich on the 6am and then down to Flumserberg in hire car, back for 8.30pm flight home.

Just looking at some dates now (prob Feb/March - will let you know if we are going to do it).

There was a feature on it the Daily Telegraph and it might be worth contacting the Swiss Travel Centre in London who used to advertise it.

PS - Always fancied doing it, so I'm in if you need an extra body to help keep down the costs! )

Have been to Val several times so I know it's not an ideal resort for total beginners - but a crowd of us booked ages ago and now one of the guys girlfriends (who has never skied before) wants to join us.

So we are kinda stuck with the resort on this occasion - we'd have chosen differently if we'd been aware from the start that we potentially had a beginner in the group.

Was just trying to guage what it was going to cost her on top of the basic trip/lessons/ski hire - obviously if she can avoid having to buy a lift pass (at least for the start of the week) then it could make a big difference cost wise.

Thanks for all the advice, info and comments folks.

Moving on from Arinsal..

Get yourself to the Dolomites (Italy) - cheaper while your there than Austria and way cheaper than France. Huge area for intermediates to explore.

Transfers can be longer than other places but if you've been to Arinsal in the past it's similiar I'd imagine so no hardship!

Though we ski lots of places each season we always reserve at least a week for the Dolomites now.

Just waiting for a big dump I guess.
22hrs and ski the Alps ?

A few of us fancy doing a weekday day trip to the Alps - empasis on the 'DAY' ...

We recon it's very dooable with 5/6hrs skiing in there .. leave home at about 2am, back home in the UK and in bed about midnight the same day.

So comments and feedback - who's done it... and who wants to join us in 2012 if we do !

I'm told in the past that some of the very beginners lifts at the foot of Soliase were free and didn't need a pass can anyone confirm if this is true/still the case ?

Been there a few times but never something I've had to worry about till now.

Help apprecitaed.

Austria- When to ski?

Pays your money and takes your choice really unless you go HIGH and be a little more sure.

Have skied in slush with green fields in Saalbach in mid january - 2 weeks later it was superb conditions. Likewise have skied the next door resort of Zell in March one year with fantastic conditions and more snow falling daily - a year later same resort, same week and the home runs were green with spring flowers on them and had been closed for weeks.

Unfortunately (for me) I like some cahratcter to go with my sking sometimes so i don't always go for the high snowsure ski station resort.
