No help to Rincewindwiz now, but I was able to carry my Ski boots into Salzburg from Dublin in my hand luggage on Ryanair.
It must be just some authorities, but you can bet if Ryanair think they will squeeze more money 'cause you have to put them in the hold they will very soon. |

HI All
I had to laugh when someone further up to queue mentioned packing too much! The first year I went (not four years ago but three trips ago - thats how my mind is working now....) as a woman I thought I needed every pair of the six pairs of shoes/boots I brought - black, brown / boots, shoes etc. This time I left my ski gear there from the last trip and am only bringing hand luggage. Washed ski socks (for each day Ian!!!), knicks, polo necks and that;s it. Oh and the wheel barrow. No one cares what you wear unless you look cold because you didn't bring the right things.!! then they sneer and rightly so. Don't worry you have the gear. This will be my fourth time skiing and still got the jitters - can't wait. I also started in my thirties and yeah my only regret that I didn't make the effort to go earlier when I was much much fitter! Don't forget to let us know how you got on |

Hi - Postalm in Austria has plenty of T-bars for a beginner (most people hate them but....) It is a small resort but with only one set of chairs you should be fine - not much though for the experienced/advanced skier.
You get there by either car or ski bus from Strobl, so no gondola!! Check it out postalm.at (german only site) or on bergfex.com (not listed on J2SKI) Regards |

Hi All
I am going to Gosau on the 24th (just can't wait either!!) but was wondering has anyone else been. I was there a few weeks ago but only did the main Gosau slope (which was difficult for my level but got down a couple of times) and the Russbach main slope which we both liked. However there is much more to the resort (140km!) but we only spent one day there so didn't really venture far. I am looking for a description of the various slopes so I will know what is ahead and if I am able for them. As I said the main Gosau slope was tricky but not impossible and marked red but also the Russbach was marked red and there was a huge difference. So I am looking for help on comparisons please. Hope this makes sense..... Regards |

Hi RoseR
Why not Austria? In June it is beautiful - weather quite good but not too hot and plenty of activities (walking, cycling etc) to do. My folks bought an apartment there last year and don't ski - they are east of Salzburg near Bad Ischl. Beautiful towns, villages and lots of lakes and of course mountain activities Cheap flight to Salzburg or Munich and travel around. Cheers |
