I just contacted one of the Rental compaines in Postalm - where I am going for the first few days - and they said they would give me the Atomic SX7 (350???) - any thoughts on these skis?

Cheers for the advice. Think I will be asking for different models throughout the week and test run them that way.
Will check out the rental shops I know I will be going to and ask in the meantime aswell - Thanks I am going to get private lessons next time out too so maybe the instructor will be able to recommend a particular type after seeing my skiing ability. Is it just me or does everyone get butterflies in their stomach from the thoughts of going on my next ski holiday :) |

This will be my fourth week on snow - I am carving (not very well on the steeps though, more of a series of hockey stops I think!).
I don't want to be seen to be thinking I am better than I am and not "deserving" of the next level of skis etc.. I bought boots last time out so now I am committed (we all should be "committed" when you see some of the slopes!!) Thanks I think from what you say about moving up as soon as possible I will try it out. What are things to look out for? I will not be going off piste this time 'round and only sticking to the many available runs. Thanks |

Hi All - At what stage should I go for the next stage of rental skis?
I have always gone for the beginner skis but just wondering what the difference is to go up a level (apart from the shpondoolies). Regards Lisa |

Hi All
I am a beginner but do have the problem as described - I am very conscious of it and tried on the last trip to improve constantly. Now I find because I am so conscious of turning left and clipping the back of my left ski (inside ski) I literally lift it off the ground and quickly go into my next good right turn. Of course this is not correct but maybe by practicing on the easier slopes skiing on one leg while traversing it will give some balance and consciousness to what you need to do. As I said I am only a beginner but practicing on the lower slopes what I am trying to move away from doing did help. Hope this makes sense. I am going again in a couple of weeks and am definitely "investing" in some private lessons to fix this known issue, so I can move on to the next thing..... I am scared though!! |

Thanks 4X4 - I was on this site the other day looking at the goggles and didn't even notice the helmets!!
Thanks everyone for your help - I am definitely going to buy one this season (maybe not for €200 though but maybe up to €100) |

Yeah looks quite cool to me - I will check them out when I get there - there being Austria (again :) )
There are loads of ski shops of course and not far from the apartment is a discount store - I can't find them online but wil post the link when I have the info. Going to Gosau/Russbach in the Dachstein West and of course try the smaller area of Postalm for a couple of days first to get lessons. Thanks all for your help Lisa |

Thanks - I guess then if it fits...... :)
I know they don't look that cool or you look like a total professional - one end of the scale or the other, but I am getting maybe too old to care if my head is going to look like mush.... sense prevails if you are a crap (only 3 weeks on snow) skier! Trying to get my 18 year old daughter to wear one might prove more difficult :) |
