Snapzz,
Have seen many 3 & 4 star hotels ( inc flight & transfer) , half board reduced to around the £300/wk mark for xmas week ( but this wont be the case if you want new years eve as well!). As others have stated, new years is highly sought after and usually top price. If you want xmas & not new years eve, wait & get a bargain where the snow is. FB |

Snapzzz,
Seriously looked over the last 3 xmas breaks & there have always been some seriously excellent late discounts; leave it late or you will kick yourself; most folks seem to want to stay home for xmas & go over new year. FB |

Have tried to persuade 'my lot' to go over XMas for the last 3 years; if you leave it late there always ( at least when have looked on the web) seems to be very cheap deals to be had with at least 50% off retail price. Would wait so you get the deals & know what the snow is like. Good luck FB |

Snosu,
Where abouts are you staying in town? Are you near the main street or up 'the hill'? Its a nice place with a couple of decent bars.Very good value on and off the mountain. Absolutely loads of 'huts' that are all pretty good. Make sure you ski over to Going. Deserted slopes. Theres a fantastic mountain hut on the return piste with a massive panoramic window & open 'fire' in the middle ( although the piste is a bit crap as it crosses a small road so may have to briefly take off ski's. Pistes were well chopped up by the afternoon though. Westendorf is good but quite a hike so make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Enjoy FB |

How long from beginner to confident on reds?

Was on reds by second week ( very confident by end of 2nd week; although style may have been somewhat lacking) ; cheated a bit by wearing shorter ski's than recommended for my height
Also thought that blasting through crud & ice would be easier on a board as you haven't got two planks to keep in control! FB |

For foot related reasons have been considering trying boarding; however the thought of becomming a novice again is rather off putting
How long should I expect ( i know there are many variables but am looking for a rough time frame)to take from beginner to confident on reds? FB |

CEM,
Problem I have is that I get a bad pain under my foot at the forward part of the arch. Its so bad I have to stop skiing. Best way to describe it would be like standing/balancing on the 'ends' of 2 broom handles with the broom handle in the arch of your foot. Am on 3rd pair of boots & have tried various insoles & now have custom made ones. Newest boots were fitted at EB ( as they had a good sale & got a real good price..........would have come to you for the boots otherwise!). Boots are salomon impact 8 with the mouldable shell & liner. Also have a custom molded insoles. Boots do not pinch and are fine as long as I,m not skiing! The pain can be just as intense if skiing blue or black! Whats weird is that the pain is erratic; skiing last week, feet fine all day; the following 5 days were painful with only 1/2 day respite.Loosing buckles etc on lifts, breaks etc did/does help a 'tiny' bit but not enough to stop it ruining the skiing day. After speaking with a friend the other day, I am beginning to think its something to do with the tendons in my foot as opposed to something wrong with the boot. (In fact I'm sure the boot is okay)Was thinking about going to a sports physio to see if they can help.Either that or was going to try snowboarding , as their type of boot does 'appear' to be way more comfy ( although havent tried as yet). What do you think? FB |
