Jimmi85,
Just occurred to me, Cervinia would be perfect for your GF ( slopes wise)........not much in town but sure she would get to grips on those easy blues & reds of Cervinia Go for it. FB |

Jimmi85,
if you are planning to go to France a week after 1/2 term; I,m assuming you mean 'our' 1/2 term? You will likely find that your week of choice is one of the French 'zones' 1/2 terms and will be very busy. Would recommend avoiding France through all of Feb to be honest. Also, from what research i have done snowboard schools ( or at least recommended ones) are few & far between ( with several running lessons only in the afternoon). Am planning my first boarding trip ( after some time skiing) & trying to tie up a good deal in a resort with a 'recommended' board school isn't easy. If you want to stick with France ,there are some 'smaller' resorts located along the Maurienne valley that have some decent height & you will find not to painful on the wallet. How did your GF get on at Les Arcs? That's somewhere I've been considering but wasnt sure if it is suitable for 1st time boarding? FB |

Carol,
Wouldnt bother with the 'first' one in bandits post; its so weak it wouldn't stop any one from nicking your babies; The second one is the type of thing you should be using. FB |

Haven't been to la Plagne so would'nt be able to advise specifically BUT I,m sure any 'intersport, Sport 2000 or other rental/retail outlet in resort will have a selection; Dont be afraid to offer less than 'ticket' price as they are usually prepared to do a deal ( go for 20-25-30% off initially & you may get 15-20% off).

Gravid,
Do some research before your holiday to 'see' who in europe shares the same 1/2 term & pick your location accordingly; went to Austria this year as 1/2 term in uk was shared with quite a few of our european cousins & in particularly France ( or Paris at least). Never had to queue for more than a couple of minutes & slopes were not at all packed ( almost empty some of the time). Also, refreshment prices ( food & beer) in Austria are way cheaper than France. Slime
( nice name by the way!!); stick with a known brand & you wont go wrong ( doubt you will find something 'cheap' anyway). Giro, Smith,Uvex should all be available & am sure you will find one to fit. Rentals will be fine but are you okay with wearing a 'rental' helmet? ( if yes, go that route as it will be cheaper). FB |
