Well, I've seen 'em. All over the place. Looks like fun. I was considering hiring some for a day or so and giving it a try, but I'm not entirely convinced about the "no poles" thing....I quite like having poles, (even though I use mine badly/wrongly)....

I used blades for a couple of years in 2005 and 2006 and they are quite good fun if you just want to mess around with mates and not do any serious skiing, but they are not good for technique as you have to lean back to go anywhere fast and the end result is that when you go back to skis your technique won't be great as this was pointed out to me when taking my first skiing qualification with the Army in 2007, the instructor guessed straight away that I had been using them. The no poles thing won't be an issue, you'll be amazed that you'll be completely fine skiing without poles and that you can ski fine without poles (purely a psychological thing). If its just one day your going to be using them for then go for it, then can be great fun in powder and in the park.

My daughter rented some for a day a few years back, said they were great fun for about an hour, and then became a real pain in the backside. Personally I dont see the fun in them at all as it would restrict me getting about a ski area. Plus its more like ice skating than skiing, different technique.
My daughter said it felt normal to ski on them without poles.
