I know this is completely off-thread but I thought this article about surfing and autism might be of some interest!
Good luck |

My, my, Tony - I never figured you for a sheep wanting to be part of the herd  . From reading your posts, I thought you were a genuine contrarian but now the truth is out ..... With all due respect, aren't these dull colours more suited to a grey day at home. Surely, a bright sunny day in the alps demands something more exciting  Mind you, I am likely to face some slagging this year - Ireland play France in the 6 nations on the day I get back from Alpe D'Heuz and I will probably have to go straight to the ground from the airport. I suspect my bright yellow jacket, with tasteful blue and black trimming, will stand out a bit amongst the rugby fans  |

Personally, I think Meribel is a far better option. From there it is possible to ski anywhere in the 3Vs whereas its takes a lot of time to get into the Courcheval valley from VT - I prefer to enjoy my skiing rather than putting myself under pressure reaching far away areas and getting back before essential links close .
I also think Meribel is a more attractive resort, even if it would be unusual to hear French spoken. Haven't stayed in VT but I suspect apres ski is better in Meribel. |

Get lessons! Apart from learning technique, your instructor will know exactly what you are capable of and will know the slopes that you are up to! If he or she is any good, they will continually push you along the learning curve but will do so in a controlled manner. You will not and could easily find yourself out either not pushing yourself enough or taking on too much and finding youself out of your depth on a slope that is beyond your capabilities - this is not fun :!:

I would love to see a return of more flambouyant colours on the slopes - recent ski gear fashion has been drab and boring . Aside from the asthetic value, or lack thereof, the more garish colours have a very practical use in helping to distinguish people on the slopes . Wasn't it much better when you looked up or down the slopes and were able to pick out your group because of the distinctive mix of colours ? Wasn't it more fun in apres ski when you needed to keep your sunglasses on to deal with the riot of colour ?
So........ I will be wearing my bright yellow, blue and black Fila jacket purchased at the end of the season about 12 years ago and still in great condition - it was actually the Italian team colours for that year  |

LIDL in Ireland get their ski gear in on Thursday - limited range but can be handy for stuff like socks, also looks like the sunglasses are a real bargain.

You hitch a lift on the transfer bus to Lyon - about 3 hours; then find the transfer bus to Meribel and wait around for another 3 hours until the bus fills up and 3 hours later you arrive in Meribel - simple plus it will help you empathise with the punters who pay for the privilege   .
Otherwise you could have look at www.natives.co.uk where they have all kinds of useful information for saisonnaires . Lucky b@&*$*d . |

Posh is so thin now, you would be afraid to let her up the mountain in case she blew away . Why do some women think that the stick insect look is good .
However, I was rather jealous of her ski caddy - a lackey to carry her skis for her when she was not skiing  ...... if only the budget would stretch that far  |
