Dolomites to require Covid Cert
Started by User in Italy, 35 Replies
Just got this message from the Dolomites:

"To access the lifts the EU QR code covid certificate (proof of vaccination, a negative test or recovery from the virus) is mandatory from the age of 12. The skipass, available online or at our selling points has to be activated daily with the EU QR code covid certificate. Additional, a surgical mask is compulsory on lifts with closed vehicles and the capacity on cable cars, gondolas and chairlifts with canopy will be reduced to 80 %."

If I understand the plans correctly, you will have to download their App and upload your cert onto the App. I don't know if this means that you will have to take out your phone at each lift to get through
Austria Going Into 20 Day Full Lockdown
Started by User in Ski News, 5 Replies
There appears to be some speculation that the idea of the current lockdown is to ensure that the main ski season is protected. Whether they succeed or not, only time will tell  .

Incidentally, I am just back from Germany (Hamburg). They have a strict 2G rule (vaccinated or recovered) for entry into most places and it is thoroughly checked everywhere. They also require contact tracing information in most indoor locations - nearly everybody was using the Luca App to provide this info - really easy to use. I have to say that even though it was a bit of a pain being checked everywhere, it also provided a high degree of comfort that you were relatively safe once you were in  .

SwingBeep wrote:Many of the provisions of the new decree have lots of potential for affecting the validity of ski insurance e.g. skiing under the influence, skiing off piste without a transceiver, probe and shovel and skiing a black piste without having a high level of physical and technical ability are all offences under the new decree. If you injure yourself or someone else whilst doing any of the above your insurance company might reject your claim.

That is very interesting, thanks SwingBeep. Not sure what to think really. I suppose on the one hand it gives insurance companies an excuse to reject more claims, on the other it puts the onus on the skier/boarder to behave responsibly? Making a judgement call on whether I still have the "physical and technical ability" to ski a particular black run as I get older could be quite a grey area. I'd set off thinking I was OK but then if I hurt myself on it maybe the insurance company would disagree with my thinking.
A friend of mine was involved in a crash on the slopes in Austria a number of years ago and was sued by the other person involved. As part of the proceedings, the Court ordered that he go out on the slopes with an instructor who had to prepare a report on his level of competence

Its winter, of course they will.

Do you know if the UK exemption is valid in Austria? I have managed to get away using it in Spain and Greece this summer without any problems.
Was in Portugal a couple of weeks ago. As far as I know, the Brits still had to produce a negative PCR test on way in and to get back into UK. There was a test centre operating on the Marina in Vilamoura with queues of UK holidaymakers every day. EU citizens were able to rely on EU Covid Vaccine Cert.
Ischgl - at long last

Hi Tony

It seems strange to be talking skiing again after the lengthy break. I think you will really enjoy Ischgl. Doug has probably captured the main highlights. I found it best to head over to the Swiss side early in the day. It is South facing and the skiing is best early in the day and then head back to the local side after lunch but remember that lunch on the Swiss side may be quite a bit more expensive!

Enjoy!

I can't travel more than 5km from my home at present, never mind make it to the alps
Will SAGA take over? All the over 70s will be vaccinated and raring to go
Was thinking of doing the same in my local park but the snow didn't come in our area  . There is only a short little, gentle slope lasting probably no more than 50m but I am missing skiing so much, I would probably have had a go anyway, even if it was just for the novelty of it
