The only, very slight advantage is that next year Jan 31st falls on a Sunday so assuming I'm not totally overloaded and having to work on the weekend all will be done by Friday 29th, hopefully that's not wishful thinking!!!

Definitely can't do January unfortunately as am an accountant (whisper it!) so with tax return deadline looming at the end of the month Jan is a total no go!

Am now going with a couple of my wife's cousins and friends so 7 of us in total heading to ... Livigno. Bit of a trek for me having to go from Gatwick down from just outside of Liverpool but for all of £22 return can get there from Runcorn easily enough courtesy of Virgin trains. Here's hoping the return flight is on time to catch my train back up!
And I know, I know, it's a long transfer but hey am sure it's fantastic once there isn't it Mr Wickham? Please tell me it is :D |

Doubt it's just me but I have this ability to conjur up thoughts of skiing merely from the sodden after effects of being rained on (or as the proper terminology would have me say, 'soaked through') and so therefore any sweaty/damp clothing immediately takes me back to the 'glorious' smells of ski rooms full of damp, sweaty, musty ski clothing and equipment, but the question is what other smells cause people to immediately jump back to thier ski heaven, is it the jagermeister or something totally more obscure ...
... and following on with some randomness have been playing this very childlike (and some may say sad!) game when driving along and looking at the suffix of car registration plates and trying to figure out appropriate ski resorts, in the past day we've had WNG (Wengen) and VDS (Val D'Isere) ... will go back into my little northern hole now :D |

People can say they're not cheap but being a regular visitor with the family to Ireland to stay with the in-laws this half term (if something hadn't come up in the meantime) we could have flown Liverpool to Dublin return afternoon of Sat 24th, back afternoon of Sat 31st (so good flight times not early morning or late evening) for £50 for ALL 5 of us, everything included - how? Well was £5 per sector each, no taxes (not sure how Ryanair actually do this, do they cover this cost themselves?), hand luggage only, free online check in and paid with by Halifax's Easycash Visa Electron card (as we go to Ireland so often was worth 5 minutes doing an online application for this even if the card only gets used for flights with Ryanair!) So how anyone can say that £50 for 5 return flights isn't cheap is beyond me!

Nice summary Tony, I refused to watch it on the basis of being a fan of O'Leary and his no-nonsense approach. As Ryanair rightly state no one is pressured into flying with them, people are aware of all charges before they book and they are provided with the T and C's under which they book. Think am right in saying the only thing that O'Leary says keeps him awake at night is the safety aspect, and obviously that's a main priority as the business would suffer massively if they were to have a catastrophic accident. Ryanair have actually published their correspondence with the Beeb over the offer of unedited interviews etc http://www.ryanair.com/site/news/releases/2009/docs/Panorama%20Correspond.pdf and it's worth a read if anyone has time - seems to show how upfront Ryanair appear to be whilst they accuse the Beeb of planning a hatchet job ...
