Pavel, oh Pavel.
I'm trying to think less about skiing over the summer months not more! Are we talking about numbers relating to the skis themselves or skiing in general? |

I've even scoured all Pavel's previous threads but to no avail. I'll just have to find an even bigger box to try and think outside off.

Time for a new approach!
As a Brit, time spent amongst the skiing fraternity is extremely limited. In fact I have only ever had a grand total of 31 days of skiing on snow without a roof on it. Because of this, help is very often needed to learn the finer details of this magical sport. Pavel - I need Help  From a fellow Commonwealther - what ever that's supposed to mean. |

Do I have any of them right?

This is starting to annoy me now! The cat woke me up at 4:30am this morning and I never made it back to sleep once I started thinking about the 5 bloomin magic numbers.
I can think of five meaningful numbers but I don't think any of them are of the 'ski feel' - 'Use the force Luke' enlightenment that Pavel is refering to :D . My 5 are; Ski Length = 164cm Am I new to sking and therefore think that extra ski length is just more to have to turn or have I 'seen a few pistes in my time' and think that skis under 190cm are what 12 year old boys ski on. More accuratety, am I Georgio Rocca or Michael Walchoffer. Radius = 12.2m This, according to who you speak to, is either the skis natural turning radius or the radius of the Arc of the side cut. I personaly think it's the latter although interestingly (depending on what you find interesting!) the Rossi Mutix quote 2 radius depending on which stiffeners are attached but obviously without the sidecut or length changing. Width = 122mm/65mm/101mm The Width of the ski measured at the Tip, middle and the tail. These figures define the shape of the sidecut and hence it's radius or turning ability. You can also play trumps with them - "Tip measurement 122mm - damn you beat me, mines 120mm" etc. Edge Bevel Angle = 1.5 (soon to be 3) degrees. Do I want Bridgestone Potenza levels of g-force inducing grip or more of a 'Driving Miss Daisy' whitewall affair with plenty of slide. DIN Settings = 6.5 Have I been enjoying my pies too much, am I likely to 'drop in' of a 100ft cliff, how much do I value my knees, how much is it going to hurt if my skis suddenly pop off. Crucial safety settings for your bindings to help to make sure you are never the first onto the plane home (in the wheelchair). Like I said, I think I'm missing Pavels magic number. None of these will save me money. It's probably something to do with the VFM (Value for Money) ie knowing that this years ski is the same as last years ski but with the new 'that's like, soo cool dude' graphics. |

I suppose If I planned to return for a second week to the same same ski area, perhaps an anual pass would be worth considering.
Thanks. |

Unfortunately there isn't much call for season tickets amongst us Brits!

I don't know if this is the number you are on about but it's the number that would have saved me the most money - 3 = expensive, 4 = cheap. I bought Salomon Streetracer 10's in March for £400 and they were £270 in April. Unfortunately I'm the sort that will wake up and decide that today we shall be mainly buying skis and once that dicision is made then it must be executed as quickly as possible. My number was 3 - £400. |
