Can't Wait! Yes you're right. I am the new boy amongst my small circle of skiing friends. I'm also the most obsessed with skiing - the only one who could recognise most of the top World Cup Skiiers, the only one who ownes their own skis but unfortunately also the only one yet to have ventured down a black run. Once I have the black run out the way then they'll be eating my um, snow? |

A new observation.....
In January we skied in Wengen, Switzerland. The conditions were pretty much Ice everywhere. A few weeks later I visited our local dry slope, did three runs and went home. I just couldn't do it. The skis simply wouldn't turn. In March we were in Austria and low down it was mainly slushy from lunch onwards. Yesterday I was back at the same dry slope - not a problem! Infact it was probably the most fun I've had at the slope (if that's possible on an artifical slope). I think the extra effort required to ski in slush was somehow committed to memory with the result being that the extra resistance that the dry slope creates was no longer a problem. As I keep saying to the girlfriend, the variable conditions we experienced on the last two holidays can only make us better skiiers! |

Ben,
I appreciate your concern - in both aspects. With regards to the narrow stance. I'm not trying to create a narrow stance that is any narrower than my hip width. My stance is currently wider than my hips and causes me problems with tight turns, especially in variable snow/powder etc. Carving is not a problem, it's just everything else! As regards to the ski carrier, the main fastening to the car is via a strap that is tethered to two fastening points inside the boot. The suction cups are really there to act as a contact point on the car that aren't going to move. I think the risks you have highlighted are probably valid using purely the suction cups so to prevent other people having problems I'll remove the reference from the original post. Thanks |

I'd read about not facing the tips forward but I don't have enough clearance between the rear screen and the bindings.
Your right about the ski bag. I originally designed the carriers to be used with a ski bag but as I was only taking them to the local ski shop to be waxed for the summer they travelled naked. The suction cups are quite amazing. Each pair has a 100kg capacity! I also have a central strap fastened to the car - just in case! |

i've made my self a wobble board!
The idea being that it will help to improve balance and hopefully then allow me to ski with a slightly narrower stance which at the moment causes me a few issues. Early findings are that it's a lot easier with the legs bent and feet closer together. It also make my feet ache like hell which may also be a benefit. I generally suffer with aching foot arches on the first few mornings of a ski holiday. I had always assumed it was due to tension but the discovery of the same ache on the wobble board may indicate that it's something else. Picture 1 Picture 2 I'll let you know the outcome! |

Is VIM a brandname or a product type? I'm trying to think of a UK equivilent. I'm assuming it's a bit like Brasso (used for polishing brass). I've polished scratches out of damaged CD's with Brasso before. Yes! I think I have to remember to forget thinking about it! |

Are you refering to the top or the bottom of the ski here? My beloved 1 ski week old streetracer 10's have quite a few cuts on top that I would love to be able to get rid off. No idea how they got there mind. I'm sure I'm not crossing my skis - at least not knowingly! |
