We are bombarded with all sorts of numbers. Codes for this and that. Id numbers for passes. Passeport number! Etc......

Car registration, Swiss bank account number!!!!!!

There are five, only five numbers that all skiers must know cold! If I had it my way all skiers before they were given a day ski pass should be given a test to see if they knew these numbers!

These are vital numbers like your date of birth, first car, marriage date, so think hard skiers.

It is these numbers that seperate the "committed skier" from the "sampler"!

It is these numbers that show the truly knowledgeable skier!

It is these numbers that give skiers peace of mind! Once you will find out these numbers you wiil understand.

So fellow skiers I give you one week to provide the five magic numbers ALL skiers should know.

To the first skier that gets all five I will give a polarfleece jacket!

Have fun.

PS
For you well "educated" skiers these numbers are nominal, some interval and one is the product of the Gaussian distribution! Hope I have wet your intellectual appetit!

The first four seem easy(so I'll wait on those), but the fifth, what might have a bell curve ?....

The number of falls in a season ?
The amount of equipment I've bought ?
The number of times I use my season pass ?
The number of my post on j2ski

because I'm so inclined .....

1, Number of the piste with umbrella bar at the bottom
2, Time of the last lift to get to the piste with the umbrella bar at the bottom
3, PIN number for money to spend at umbrella bar
4, Number of strikes with hammer to sink nail into tree log at umbrella bar (an Austrian thing)
5, Number of apparently free drinks 'miene host' gives out at umbrella bar before presenting the bill.

Obviously all after a thorougly hard day of intensive and well executed skiing

Fellows, fellows ( since no women has answered yet), I am talking about really, really important numbers here!

The kind that you should have engraved on your skis or jacket. The kind that will make your skiing happy and safe!

The kind that you can post on those "encounter" internet sites so that you can "impress" the other.

Let me give you a taste.

When you buy a car you look at the horsepower. When you buy a ski you look at.......

When you look at the women, you look at the figure
( 36-24-26) " When you look up new skis you look at........

When you buy a fly fishing rod you look at its wip potential. When you buy a ski you want the .........

When you buy a house you look at the initial price, taxes, legal fees, etc.. When you want the best ski deal you look at...... ( yes here is your Gaussian index Trencher)

Finally when you buy a high performance tire ( or tyre) you want its speed rating ie Z! When you buy a ski you absolutely must know its........rating!

Have fun.

Ellistine.

No bad , not bad for a "recent" convert to this sport.

For the uninitiated you should identify what those numbers mean!

Now think about your house and all the "considerations" you made before buying it!

There is a no better quiz than a Pavel quiz !!!!! They get you thinking and keep the ski season going all year !!! And when all others have moved onto their golf season we are still on the slopes - even if only in mind !!!

I have found that I tend to use the shot gun approach to Pavel's quizzes and sometimes I get closer to the answer and at others I spiral really far away.

So Pavel, here is my first blast from the shot gun!

The important numbers ...

1, ski length
2, ski side cut profile,
3, the ski's stiffness flex index
4, the purchase's anticipated enjoyment index (1 = so so, and 10 = WOW!)
5, the edge bevel angle giving that sure footed solid handling.

But there are other numbers too that are important.

1, time to get to the ski hill in minutes from home
2, the time the first chair leaves the bottom
3, lunch time as the wife may like to dine and get warmed up
4, the time to set the alarm clock for an early morning departure - synchronized to items 1 & 2 above.
5, the time the ski hill closes for the day.

Oh, how I've missed "The Springtime Pavel Quiz" !!!
