I am back and forth all the time. I will be there this afternoon as it happens :-) So can give you news from the ground so to speak.......although I know there is no snow and the 2 week forecasts are frankly pants. You can find the odd one showing hints of snow, but it's all rather pathetic currently.
I am only 2 hours drive from the Tirol, so in winter there every week for a few days. Wednesday 10th showing some possible life, but I am not very confident - no proper dumps on the way yet. |

I don't wish to sound ungrateful but the J2Ski "Powder Alarm" emails have now become a running joke on my Facebook page. I post the "Powder Alarms" and then we all fall about laughing as we watch it rain, or you get an inch of sleet instead of the 50cm predicted etc.
The snow alerts are about as much use as a chocolate radiator. Was the same for the whole of last season. The gaps between the snow reports and reality are hysterical. |

Actually I think the issue is that it is MUCH EASIER to spot a crap skier than a crap snowboarder on the slopes. Because on a snowboard the feet are clamped together......as long as they are still riding sunny side up it is much harder to spot the good from the useless.
Once you are a decent snowboarder it becomes easier to spot the hopeless from the brilliant, but I would say 90% going down the slope look kinda the same. Obviously you see the men from the boys when things get trickier. I can categorise skiers on a scale of 1 to 10 almost instantly - just because the seperation of the skis makes it soooo much easier to spot style. I ski and board. I do agree that skiing is a trickier art to master to a kinda professional level, whereas boarding is more freeflowing and casual. However - the whole discussion is bollox as 99% of us are doing it for our own personal enjoyment, so who gives a shit what level of skill anybody has? p.s. Skiers die more often than snowboarders 'cos they go faster in a pointless attempt to show off at speed. Us boarders just have fun!! |

Problem is........of course everyone is heading for the higher resorts. HochZiller was pretty much rammed today. Wasn't tooooo bad in the lift queues (3-4 minutes maybe) but the carparking was pretty unreal.
