Still trying to negotiate with Mrs Mac for a day at Cairngorm. The price of 6 weeks skiing in winter is a collosal list of "Things that must be done by ....."

Better, and much cheaper, than skiing in a snowdome?

From the photos I'd say so. Don't think you can really beat being outside.

Definitely skiable snow up there today! Looking warm this week but I hope it lasts. How many other European resorts have had lift served skiing for 7 consecutive months this 'winter'?

Indeed, the last time anyone made it to the top of K2 was in 2008 when 30 climbers from 10 different expeditions joined forces to make a summit bid. Around 18 of them are believed to have made the summit and in a terrible chapter in the history of climbing, 11 of them never returned.

The next year, 2009, the mountain brushed off all her suitors, sparing all but one precious life, that of Michele Fait, an experienced Italian ski mountaineer whose tragic death deeply saddened both the climbing and skiing communities

How heavy do those rail systems make the skis? I was stunned at the weight of the Tyrolia Railflex...and so was everyone who offered to pick up my skis

Typical comment... $#%*! how do you manage?

By the end of a ski day I would usually have tired legs.

It's so nice to be back on flat bindings with light skis 8)

Don't think I have been on enough pairs of skis to comment. I have LPs (which weight a ton) and they are such a smooth ride but I noticed the legs getting a little tired by the end of the day. The Nordicas I could ski all day every day and the Vists beat me up after a half day of hard skiing. Think at my young age it is more about ski characteristics than total weight. Also, they all require different technique so it is difficult for me to make a comparison.

Would be cheaper to take an extra bag than to hire a pair of skis!
