This has the potential to be at the minimum a really good winter, but, should the weather gods continue, could be one of the great winters.

BA! You would be a class act on your own!

I have had solo visits, (OK in the main, to Niederau or Colorado). Outwith Niederau, I would have no hesitation on a solo visit to anywhere. It is the skiing that counts. OK, in Niederau, no matter what time of year, I know many visitors, plus all of the locals. No matter, I would be happy to be solo in any resort.

Notably, in the Arlberg, I asked the hotel person where the locals went to drink. Went there, and formed a strong bond with several locals.

Yes, I have two to three family and friends visits each season, but I do enjoy the solo trips.

I agree, Agni.

I would also add that ski school was one of the best I have encountered.

Scandal! There is no such thing as too much snow! The J2Ski snow dance section has performed well! Heaps better than Strictly!

I will arrive in Niederau on Friday, and be in the Skiwelt/Kitzbuhel area Sunday to Tuesday, and several days later in the week.

What a great start to the season!

Pole Plant's observations about the Tyrol feel in Vail are spot on, and have a strong foundation.

An Austrian International racer, Pepi Gramshammer, who was based in Innsbruck, went to Vail, founded a ski school, and built the first major hotel/restaurant in Vail. His solicitor and fund raiser was the husband of a lady, now in her 90s, and who I met last season, is the grandmother of a lovely friend, based in Vail.

Gramshammer hotel was built in Tyrol style, and many hotels followed the lead, and maintained the Tyrolean style.

Pepi and myself in the Gramshammer hotel:
